The NAIS Bill moving through Congress - it limits your freedoms with your horse

The NAIS program, as part of the Farm Bill, is moving steadily through the US Congress. This National Animal Identification System (NAIS) only helps the meat exporting industry and it infringes on our freedoms and rights as horse and horse farm owners .
Tyson Chicken, Swift, Armor Meat Packing and other meat exporters are spending lots of money to require us to file a Federal report every time we take our horses anywhere off our property. This means that if you ride or trailer off the property where you keep your horse, you will be required to file a document to the US government. If you don’t, you will be committing a Federal Offense. You may think that this cannot be possible because it is so preposterous, but it is true.
Also, if you own a horse farm of any size and the Federal government revokes your LOCATION PERMIT, which is part of the proposed law, you cannot keep horses on your farm and you cannot sell your farm to anyone else as a horse farm. All livestock will be banned from your property. You may think that this sounds too crazy to be true, but it is.
The meat exporting industry wants these laws in place to help sell their meat to Japan and other countries. They believe that by having this NAIS law the US will have the strictest controls on meat related diseases in the world, and their meat exports will then become the most desirable in other countries. Many experts do not think this is true. Nonetheless, the meat packers want top give it a try, and fact that these NAIS regulations limit your freedoms with your horses doesn’t concern them.
Our new Senator Bob Casey is for this NAIS portion of the current Farm Bill. Pennsylvania has the 5th largest horse industry in the US, and he doesn’t care. He apparently prefers the Midwest based meat industry campaign contributions to his home State’s interests.
We do not have the big lobby money to compete with the meat packers, so we need to contact Senator Casey, and tell him he will be voted out of office if he doesn’t respect the freedoms of Pennsylvania horse owners and stop NAIS. Send an email to Robert Casey (D-PA) at http://casey.senate.gov/contact.cfm , or call him at 202-224-6324 and tell him no NAIS. Email your friends and fellow horse owners, and ask them to do the same.
If you wait, it will be too late.
